LakbayWika is composed of two Filipino words lakbay and wika. Lakbay meaning to visit and explore, and wika meaning language. LakbayWika aims to share information on Philippine languages, as it continues to expand its scope where it currently contains eight given languages from different regions in the Philippines namely (1) Aklanon, Romblomanon & Tausug from the Central Philippines, (2) Cuyonon from the Palawanic region, (3) Maguindanaon & Maranaon of the Danao group (4) and Tagabawa of the Manobo group from Mindanao.

       This website is a continuous project that aims to expand its content and information on more available Philippine languages for the benefit of its speakers, and academic learners who seek further data and information on their desired accessible Philippine language. As a language based website, it also targets to spread awareness on all Philippine languages used across the nation by different indigenous groups. LakbayWika overall is composed of (1) a preview of a language's word list, (2) a phonological chart, and (3) a short story and folk narrative all elicited and recorded from a speaker using his native language. Along with the data, every language page comes with the website's special feature of the Philippine map highlighting each province and showing the distribution of its speakers all over the country.

 

       Little by little, these languages are slowly leaning and focusing on using Filipino, Tagalog and English in order to connect and survive in a growing competitive nation.Contributors and makers of this website aspire to preserve and inspire people on preserving the native languages in the Philippines for the benefit of the indigenous Filipino groups and to uphold the Filipino culture as a whole. Every language is part of a distinct culture and every culture should be sustained as a symbol of what represents the Philippines as a nation.
